This series, Three Peaks and a Valley refers to three positive moments and one negative moment that happens during a twenty four hour period of my life. When I’m feeling down, my mom tells me to remember one positive and one negative thing about the experience, a peak and a valley.
Three Peaks and a Valley aims to outweigh the negative with the positive.
Three Peaks and a Valley is a regular miniseries that, by sharing my own moments of joy and vulnerability I hope that you’ll think about your own.
PEAK: I was recognized this morning when I went to get an oil change at the Subaru dealership. The woman behind the counter remembered my face from when I had my car maintenance done at the Chrysler dealership a town over. My Chrysler is long gone (RIP Linus) but the woman and I high fived several times.
PEAK: At New England Public Radio I watched the window washers spray the other side of the window I was working at. The rebounding mist formed a rainbow and droplets raced each other down the glass. Then the men used a big squeegee to wipe off the moisture. It was oddly relaxing to watch. Awesome.
PEAK: I wore red lipstick today. Red lipstick makes me feel confident. This particular brand smells pleasantly of vanilla and I continually fought the urge to lick it. (E.L.F, Razzle Dazzle Red). Get this though–it costs $3.00 and performs better than any $15 lipstick I’ve bought. This formula has a little shine, but the line does have other shades with a matte formulation. I’m also wearing the pomade from the E.L.F. eyebrow kit in dark ($3.00) as well as the e.l.f. liquid eyeliner ($2.00… two freaking dollars). This post is not sponsored, although I wish it was. I just love a good deal.
VALLEY: I had a weird headache this morning at the base of my neck that made my eyes hurt.

Note about my makeup… I do not use brushes and I consistently use old, cheap crap I find laying around. I am not a beauty expert but if you really want to know, here’s what I did:
-Garnier Skin Active Anti-Sun Damage Sunscreen
-A shit load of Tea Tree Oil. Just put way too much on until you’re actually a slip and slide. Drink a coffee. Let it sink in.
-E.L.F. Mineral Infused Face Primer.
-A pea sized drop of Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless in… uhh….. either nude beige (125) or natural beige (128)… Honestly, there’s no difference they’re both beige.
-Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer in the shade light. I put a little tiny bit on the honking dark circles under my eyes from never sleeping.
-Covergirl Clean Loose Powder in a translucent shade. Doesn’t matter which, I just use a smidge on the T-zone. I don’t bake with the powder because it makes a weird texture under my eyes.
-Tarte Amazonian 12-hour blush in the shade “paaarty” I got for free as a sample size at Sephora and LOVE. I slapped that everywhere.
-A super gross grayish purplish eyeshadow that has to be ten years old at this point that I swiped on my lid with a finger. I don’t even think it has a brand name.
-E.L.F. eyebrow kit in dark
-E.L.F. liquid eyeliner in black
-E.l.f. Razzle Dazzle Red Moisturizing Lipstick
-L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in black. I like the non-waterproof kind. I judge my mascara based on how easily it comes off. If I don’t have to stand there scrubbing all day, wonderful.
Man, that’s a lot of products. The trick for me is using almost nothing, and using my fingers so even less goes on my face. I like to see my skin and let it breathe.
